The Mississippi Kid has it all: the talent, the skills, the songs, and the desire to satisfy every ear hole this side of the Pecos Valley. This all-original Texas band will set any house afire. There are artists that coexist on the same stylistic plane (some of the more established artists like Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Charlie Daniels, Grateful Dead, or ZZ top), but The Mississippi Kid is truly unique in and of itself. While belting out a slew of creatively diverse, original tunes, they are still able to capture and preserve the spirit of the old country legends. Front Man, James Riley Napier’s word-play sculpts time with energy and excitement. And as for his guitar playing, ten chicken pickin’ fingers can’t be wrong. The deep rhythm section is laid down by Fletcher Rose (formerly of Tru Sol) on the skins and the infamous Rock Romano (of Dr. Rocket fame) on bass. Add to this excitement the beautiful harmonic singing of Kristi Heaton on backing vocals. Their first C.D ‘Songs from the Silver Sparkle Tele’, independently released in May of this year, says it all. The band ventures from Texas singer/songwriter roots, exploring the styles of old country, blues-based rock, rockabilly, bluegrass, swing, and jazz, all of which is done coherently and tactfully. The band’s instrumental textures and lyrics conjure up Wild West cowboy images and tales of old southern folklore. Contrast this with eccentric modern city life humor and you got it bub.
